- Originally (in 2004) I wrote PedDrugDose to merely calculate
doses. Next, I added the ability to print prescriptions. In
my residency program, we adopted an EMR program we were required to use
for printing prescriptions so I worked briefly on making PedDrugDose
compatible with the EMR as it had no ability to calculate pediatric
medication doses. The best I was able to come up with was a
feature where the sig would be copied into the clipboard when the user
selected a dosing regimen after it had been calculated. This
helped some but it was not until recently that I once again addressed
the issue of EMR compatibility with PedDrugDose. At Skyline Family Practice,
Practice Partner® is used. I was able to add a feature to
PedDrugDose which completely automates the creation of pediatric
prescriptions. This is done through Dot Codes - an entity which
will make sense to users of Practice Partner® and which will also be
meaningless to those who do not. On installation, users are now
prompted as to whether they will be using PedDrugDose with Practice
Partner®, turning on the
program features for Practice PartnerŪ compatibility if needed.
This makes the first
EMR-specific compatibility worked into PedDrugDose. I foresee
adding more in the future as I receive requests and the information
necessary to accomplish this. For copyright and trademark
information, please see this.
